Alienware 14, 17, 18 - USB 2.0 & 3.0 devices not working. Windows 7 Professional SP1 (Alienware Edition) Chipset Driver: Intel Lynx Point HM87 Driver 9.4.0.1017 USB Driver: Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver 2.0.0.102 IRST Controller Driver only (no app): IRST 12.0.7.1002. Welcome to Reddit, Windows 7 did not support my 512 GB Boot drive or my 1TB Data Drive. My drives are: 1TB - HGST H75721010 and 512GB - PM951 NVMe, Samsung, M.2 Form Factor So again, you need to slipstream the drivers into the USB Win 7 install. The SATA driver was easy, just get it from the Alienware/Dell site using your service tag.
This PC has dual boot, Win 7 64 bit and Win 8 64 bit and it acts the same way on both, so its back to a motherboard hardware problem. I have two front panel USB 3.0 interfaces, the one on the Coolermaster case and a separate 5 1/4' slot interface that came with the Gigabyte motherboard. Both have the exact same problem so that also puts it back to a motherboard issue. I've reflashed the BIOS and that didn't help. I've updated the Intel USB 3.0 drivers and that didn't help (but as it appears to be hardware the drivers wouldn't help). The motherboard is a Gigabyte and I'm torn between having the PC down for a an extended period and getting it repaired/replaced under warranty or just forget it since I only have the one USB 3.0 device (an external hard drive).
I am running windows 10 Pro on an Alienware 14 and just got the Fall Creators Update. When it finished and rebooted I found out that I no longer had control over any of my USB ports which presents a problem. When I try to reinstall the driver for the 3.0 controller, it tells me that no driver could be found. It also does not come up on an update when searching from Windows update. I went to Intel and Microsoft and downloaded the most recent driver for it, however it gives me a message that my system does not meet the 'minimum requirements' to install. Basically, there are no current drivers available from either Microsoft or Intel for the 3.0 extensible host controller beyond windows 7 drivers. I own two other Alienware laptops an 11x R3, and an Alienware 17, along with two home brewed desktops. All of these have been upgraded and have no problems as of this date.
I tried using SFC /Scannow and Dism programs to correct the issue to no avail. SFC states that there are corrupt files that it cannot repair and DISM says there are no issues with the system. I ran a utility that Alienware includes with the laptop that checks all hardware and it came up clean with all USB ports mechanically okay. When I plug in anything like my cell phone, it will identify file sharing on any of the USB ports, however only until Windows starts. Then it just goes into a slow charge mode and loses data transfer capability. I know the problem is with this current update of Windows and not something else.

I guess my question is: am I going to have to wait until either Intel or Microsoft comes up with an update for the driver?
